Iran: A Bridge too Far? The weapon that could defeat the US in the Gulf
14 August 2011 par Mark Gaffney (Open-Publishing)
1 commentA word to the reader: The following paper is so shocking that, after preparing the initial draft, I didn’t want to believe it myself, and resolved to disprove it with more research. However, I only succeeded in turning up more evidence in support of my thesis. And I repeated this cycle of discovery and denial several more times before finally deciding to go with the article. I believe that a serious writer must follow the trail of evidence, no matter where it leads, and report back. So here (…)

Dichter’s Law
14 August 2011 par Uri Avnery (Open-Publishing)
“THE PEOPLE Demand Social Justice!” 250 thousand protesters chanted in unison in Tel Aviv last Saturday. But what they need – to quote an American artist - is “more unemployed politicians”.
Fortunately, the Knesset has gone on a prolonged vacation, three months. For as Mark Twain quipped: “No man’s life or property is safe while the legislature is in session.”
As if to prove this point, MK Avi Dichter submitted, on the very last day of the outgoing session, a bill so outrageous that it (…) -
State to OK 4,300 new homes in East Jerusalem
14 August 2011 par JERUSALEM (Open-Publishing)
1 commentPalestinians oppose all Israeli construction in East Jerusalem because they hope to establish the capital of a future state there.
Interior Minister Eli Yishai gave final authorization to build 1,600 apartments in East Jerusalem and will approve 2,700 more in days, officials said Wednesday.
Actual construction likely will not begin for years, because building plans have to go through multiple approval processes. But the decision could complicate diplomatic efforts to dissuade (…) -
Australia quits Iraqi Genocide: 4.6 million Iraqi war-related deaths, 1990-2011
12 August 2011 par Dr Gideon Polya (Open-Publishing)
Australia has been involved since 1990 in the Iraqi Holocaust and Iraqi Genocide (4.6 million war-related deaths, 1990-2011) but has just withdrawn its last remaining 17 soldiers, replacing them with Chilean mercenaries to guard the Australian embassy.
Racist White Australia – an Apartheid Australia because of its race-based laws and regulations applied to Indigenous Australians and to Afghan and Tamil refugees - must be held to account for its complicity in the ongoing Iraqi Holocaust (…) -

1 commentPutin says US acting as ’parasite’ on world economy
SELIGER, Russia — Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on Monday accused the United States of acting as a "parasite" on the world economy by accumulating massive debts that threatened to shake global finance.
"The country is living in debt. It is not living within its means, shifting the weight of responsibility on other countries, and in a way acting as a parasite," Putin told a group of pro-Kremlin youth in central Russia. (…) -
Another stinging blow for Libya
30 July 2011 par (Open-Publishing)
The killing of Libyan rebel military commander General Abdel Fattah Younes could lead to a violent split inside anti-government forces and comes as a major rebel offensive is failing to produce significant gains prior to the onset of the holy Muslim month of Ramadan in August when extremely hot weather and all-day fasts makes warfare very difficult and slow.
The death of the general, whose body along with those of two senior aides was reportedly found badly burnt on Thursday, brings into (…) -
UN Commission Flotilla Massacre Report
28 July 2011 par (Open-Publishing)
1 commentDespite irrefutable evidence, including the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) concluding last September that Israel committed serious “violations of international law, including international humanitarian law” by massacring nine Gaza Flotilla activists, injuring dozens more, in international waters, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon appeased Israel by appointing his own commission.
On July 25, Haaretz writer Barak Ravid headlined, “UN delays flotilla report as Jerusalem and Ankara keep (…) -
Israel shouldn’t brainwash its children
20 July 2011 par (Open-Publishing)
There is nothing easier than getting preeschoolers to parrot an anthem and getting them excited by chauvinistic and religious ceremonies.
The Ministry of Education gave preschool supervisors and teachers a packet for planning and preparation for the coming school year. The first chapter is on "education to Zionist, Jewish, democratic and social values," much like the educational goals for elementary and secondary schools. After perusing it, it is hard to decide whether to laugh or cry: The (…)
